Team History[edit]

The Marion Indians were located in Marion, Illinois and were charter members of the Class D Illinois State League in 1947-1948. The Illinois State League eventually evolved into today's Midwest League.

For the 1947 season, Marion joined with the Belleville Stags, Centralia Cubs, Mattoon Indians, Mount Vernon Kings, and West Frankfort Cardinals as charter members of the new Illinois State League.[1] The franchise had first been awarded to Murphysboro, Illinois, but was relocated to Marion before the season.[2] After two seasons, the franchise was relocated to Paducah, Kentucky to became the Paducah Chiefs in 1949.
