The West Frankfort Cardinals were a based in West Frankfort, Illinois from 1947–1950. They played at Memorial Stadium and were an affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. The franchise played in the Illinois State League and Mississippi-Ohio Valley League, two leagues that were predecessors to the Midwest League.

Local businessmen Pete Mondino, Charlie Jacobs and Tony Finazzo formed. the West Frankfort Baseball and Amusement Corporation (WFBAC) that built a stadium and secured an affiliate in 1947. [1] The West Frankfort Cardinals were charter members of the Class D Illinois State League.[2]In 1948, West Frankfort finished 85-35 and won the ISL Championship.[3]Later, the Cardinals played in the Mississippi–Ohio Valley League (1949–1950), as the ISL changed names.[4]After the team went 71-48 in 1950,[5]the franchise folded and was not replaced.[6]
