Biographical Information

Marcus Giles was drafted in the 53rd round of the 1996 amateur draft by the Atlanta Braves. He was often sent up and down between Richmond and Atlanta before finally getting his first shot as a regular. In his first full season, 2003, he hit .316/.390/.526 and was selected to the 2003 All-Star Game. For the next two years he continued to put up solid numbers, posting OPS+ of 111 and 114 respectively.

He was non-tendered following the 2006 season in which he slipped into mediocrity. He was signed by the San Diego Padres for 2007, which was marred by his inability to stay healthy; he appeared in 116 games and hit only .229/.304/.317. He played with his brother Brian Giles that year. Upon the conclusion of the season his contract expired and the Colorado Rockies signed him to a minor-league contract, but he never played in the majors after that season.

Giles stands only 5'8" tall and consequently his nicknames include Wee-Man and Gilly.
