Manuel Martínez played for the Spanish national team for a decade.

Martínez helped Spain take the Bronze Medal in the 1989 European Championship. He hit only .130/.259/.174 in the 1991 Intercontinental Cup while fielding .929 as a 3B/2B. In the 1992 Olympics, the 21-year-old backed up Miguel Pariente at second base and went 0 for 4 with a walk while making one error in five total chances. He was just 1 for 16 with a walk and seven whiffs in the 1993 Intercontinental Cup, making four errors and fielding .789 at short. In the 1993 European Championship, he was 0 for 4 with four assists and an error, backing up Miguel Stella at 3B and Oscar Rebolleda in LF.

Manuel batted .371/.425/.600 in the 1995 European Championship. He tied for 9th in steals (4), tied for 6th in homers (2), tied for 10th in total bases (21) and tied for 10th in hits (13). In the 1997 Intercontinental Cup, the veteran went 4 for 20 wit ha walk and a double as a 2B/LF. He went 0 for 4 with two walks and a run as a backup left fielder for Spain in the 1998 Baseball World Cup.
