Biographical Information[edit]

Maite Despaigne has pitched for the Cuban women's national team.

She made three appearances in the 2016 Women's Baseball World Cup. Versus Venezuela, she relieved Mayumis Solano with a 10-0 deficit in the 4th, one out and two on. She gave up a two-run double to Esquia Rengel and walked Astrid Rodriguez then hit Lelis Gomez but got Ingrid Escobar to hit into a double play to end the threat. The game ended a half-inning later due to the mercy rule. Her next outing, she replaced Yadira Boffill in the 7th with the bases loaded, no outs and a 5-3 lead veruss the Netherlands. She walked Marije Filius to force in a run, struck out Bianca Mooi and got Sofie van de Wiel to hit into a run-scoring force to tie it. Sascha Egas singled to put the Netherlands up, 6-5. She plunked Thari Diefenbach but got Kyra van Genderen to end the inning. Cuba scored in the bottom of the inning to tie it and force extra innings. Under the Schiller Rule, two runners started on to begin the 8th. Winke Verdick was caught stealing and Isabelle Markies popped one up but Esther Maliepaard singled to put the Dutch back ahead and a balk scored another run. Despaigne recovered to get Famke Gildemacher and Filius then struck out. Cuba scored three in the bottom of the inning to give her the win. Her last outing, she gave up four hits, five walks and four runs (all earned) in 1 2/3 IP against Team USA to finish at 1-0, 6.46.
