Biographical Information

Mack Jenkins pitched in the minors for 3 years and coached in the minors for over two decades before becoming a major league coach.

He played three years in the Cincinnati Reds organization, going 8-13 with a 3.49 ERA in 62 games. He was undrafted out of college. With the 1986 GCL Reds, he posted a 1-6, 5.29 record. He tied for third in the Gulf Coast League in losses. In 1987, he was 5-3 with a 5.31 ERA for the Billings Mustangs. His last year, he pitched for the Greensboro Hornets (0-4, 2 Sv, 3.31) and Cedar Rapids Reds (2-0, 4.11).

He was then a minor league pitching coach in the Reds chain from 1990 to 2005, with stints for the Billings Mustangs (1990-1991), Cedar Rapids Reds (1991-1992), Charleston Wheelers (1993-1994), Charleston AlleyCats (1995), Chattanooga Lookouts (1996-2001) and Louisville Bats (2002-2005). He also replaced Pete Magre as pitching coach of Billings on August 24, 2007. After spending six years as Cincinnati's minor league pitching coordinator, he joined the Reds big league staff as assistant pitching coach in 2012. In 2014 he became the teams bullpen coach. After two and a half years in that position he became the Reds Pitching Coach on July 4, 2016. He stayed in the position until April 19, 2018, when he was fired alongside manager Bryan Price with the Reds sporting the worst record in the majors at 3-15. Jenkins returned to the minors as pitching coach of the Hagerstown Suns in 2019.
