Biographical Information[edit]
Outfielder Lyle Palmer played in the minor leagues from 1948 to 1953. He served in the US Navy Air Corps in World War II. He played on the team Berkeley team in the 1947 College World Series. He began his career with a .317 batting average in 1948 and followed that with a .319 mark in 1949. With the Albuquerque Dukes of the West Texas-New Mexico League in 1950, he hit .389 with 13 triples, 9 home runs and a .558 slugging percentage in 143 games, leading the league with 164 runs scored. His average fell to .294 in 1951, then rebounded to .309 in 1952 and .346 in 1953.
Overall, Palmer hit .332 with 748 hits in 608 games over six seasons. He taught and coached at Pleasant Hill High School for its entire existence (1954-1980).
