Luis Ramazzini P.

Biographical Information[edit]

Luis Ramazzini pitched for the Guatemalan national team and in the minors. His brother Arturo Ramazzini also played for Guatemala. [1]

He debuted with Guatemala in the 1947 Amateur World Series at age 15; against Puerto Rico, he allowed one run in seven innings. [2] He also appeared in the 1948 Amateur World Series. [3] He got Guatemala's lone win in the 1950 Central American and Caribbean Games, beating Costa Rica. [4] He was named the team MVP. [5]

Ramazzini was briefly with the Havana Cubans in 1951; the Antorcha Deportiva article cited said he was 7-3 but he is listed with no decisions in Cuban Baseball: A Statistical History; BR register doesn't even list him on the team but some of their records back then are limited for bit players. [6] He also pitched briefly with the Big Spring Broncs. It would be 42 years until another Guatemalan, Hugo Pivaral, signed with a MLB organization. [7] He later played softball for the Guatemalan national team after moving to first base. [8]
