Biographical Information[edit]
Luis Cobas played for Guantanamo for 8 seasons in the Cuban Serie Nacional. He hit .244/.302/.369 with 78 runs and 91 RBI in 336 games. He fielded .977 and threw out 34.7% of those who tried to steal. He also pitched eight games, going 1-1 with a 4.29 ERA.
After finishing his career in Cuba, he coached for the Brazilian national team in the 2008 Americas Baseball Cup and managed Brazil to a Bronze Medal in the 2011 South American Championship, a Silver Medal in the 2013 South American Championship and a Silver Medal in the 2015 South American Championship. He surprisingly was listed as a player for Brazil in the 2016 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers at age 47, but did not play as they used two other Luises at catcher - 40-year-old Luis de Camargo and 20-year-old Luis Paz in a contrast of ages.
