Lucas Montalbetti was on the Argentinian national team that won the 2004 South American Championship, Argentina's first outright title in a South American Championship. He came to the Italian Baseball League in 2010 and hit .272/.340/.336 for the Godo Knights, with 7 steals in 8 tries. The outfielder then played for his native Argentina in the 2010 Pan American Games Qualification Tournament, going 3 for 15. H appeared for them in the 2015 South American Championship.
He helped Argentina to a Silver Medal in the 2016 South American Championship, hitting .455/.556/.591 with 6 runs in six games. In the round-robin, he tied for first in average (.500, even with Felipe Burin, Iago Januario and James Sommerville), was sixth in slugging (.714, between Steve Brown and Jin Ishihara) and tied Tiago Magalhães for 8th in OBP (.529). He was named the tournament's All-Star left fielder, giving Argentina both corners as Eduardo Zurbriggen was picked in right. His numbers were down a bit in the 2018 South American Championship - he hit .318/.385/.455 with 5 RBI while playing left field and DH for Argentina. He was 2 for 5 in their win over Brazil in the Gold Medal Game; they won a spot in the 2019 Pan American Games, their first time qualifying through a qualifier rather than as host. He tied Pedro Okuda, Alan Fanhoni and teammate Mauro Schiavoni for 5th in the event in RBI.
