Biographical Information

Louis Kramer was active in the major league American Association. A lawyer, he helped organize the Cincinnati Reds and served as an owner from 1882 to 1884. He did legal work on the case against Sam Barkley in 1886. In 1887, he returned to the Reds as a director.

He was named president of the AA on February 18, 1891, the league's last season, following the dismissal of Allen W. Thurman. Among his actions in that year were blacklisting Jack O'Connor, arguing a court injunction against Charlie Reilly for contract jumping and trying to find reliable umpires. In August, he announced he was resigning the office in a couple of weeks. He spent the rest of his career as a lawyer without a formal attachment to baseball.
