Shortstop Liover Peguero was signed by the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 2, 2017, when he was just 16. He began his professional career a year later, in 2018, with the DSL Diamondbacks 1 for which he hit .309 in 22 games to earn a promotion stateside to the AZL Diamondbacks. There he fell to .197 in 19 games but was still one of the youngest players playing professionally on U.S. soil that year.
In 2019, he started off with the Missoula Osprey of the Pioneer League and completely dominated the circuit, hitting .364 with 5 homers, 34 runs and 37 RBIs in 38 games to earn another mid-season promotion. That one led him to the Hillsboro Hops of the Northwest League where he completed the season by hitting .267 in 22 games. On January 27, 2020, he was one of two top prospects - the other being P Brennan Malone - sent to the Pittsburgh Pirates in return for CF Starling Marte. The Pirates also received $250,000 in international bonus pool money in the deal.
