Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Brennan Malone was the 33rd player selected in the 2019 amateur draft, by the Arizona Diamondbacks with the first of two compensation picks, obtained for P Patrick Corbin having left via free agency. He attended Porter Ridge High School in his home state of North Carolina until transferring to IMG Academy in Florida as a high school senior, from where he was drafted. He gave up a commitment to attend the University of North Carolina in order to sign with Arizona.

He began his pro career in 2019 with AZL Diamondbacks, going 1-2, 5.14 in 6 games, before being promoted to the Hillsboro Hops of the Northwest League for one game. On January 27, 2020, he and fellow prospect Liover Peguero were traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates in return for CF Starling Marte; the Pirates also obtained $250,000 in international bonus pool money in the deal.
