Biographical Information[edit]
Leslie Heaphy (born 1964) is a history professor at Kent State University. She is the author or editor of several baseball books, including the Encyclopedia of Women and Baseball, The Negro Leagues, 1869-1960, Satchel Paige and Company: Essays on the Kansas City Monarchs, their Greatest Star and the Negro Leagues and was the editor of The 1986 Boston Red Sox: There Was More Than Game 6. She is also the founding editor of the journal Black Ball, dedicated to the history of the Negro Leagues. She served on the Hall of Fame's 2006 Special Committee on the Negro Leagues and on the Veterans Committee for the 2022 Hall of Fame Election.
She has chaired SABR's Women in Baseball committee since 1995 and has worked on organizing the annual Jerry Malloy Conference on Negro Leagues History since 1998. In 2024, she was named a recipient of the Henry Chadwick Award for her contribution to baseball research.
