Jerry Malloy
Jerry Malloy (1946-2000) was a pioneer researcher whose focus was the Negro Leagues. His first publication on the topic was an article entitled "Out at Home: Baseball Draws the Color Line, 1887", published in The National Pastime in 1983. He worked on re-publishing Sol White's History of Colored Baseball, a fundamental work from 1907 which had become forgotten but which contained significant information on the early history of baseball behind the color line.
His memory is honored by the annual "Jerry Malloy Conference" on the history of the Negro Leagues and by a research award named in his honor. In 2015, he was named a posthumous recipient of the Henry Chadwick Award.
