Biographical Information[edit]

Lee Kuntz is the head athletic trainer for the Washington Nationals.

Kuntz attended Lock Haven State College where he majored in Health and Physical Education with a specialization in Athletic Training. He received his Masters degree from Tennessee Tech. After graduation, Kuntz became the Head Athletic Trainer at the Glen Mills School in Concordville, PA.

Kuntz became a minor league trainer in 1985 when he signed with the Cleveland Indians. He started working his way up through their minor league system starting in Batavia in 1985, Waterloo in 1986, Kinston in 1987, and Williamsport in 1988.

Following the 1988 season, Kuntz left baseball and took a clinical athletic training position with the Sports Medicine Center of Macon, GA.

In 1990 Kuntz returned to baseball with the Canton-Akron Indians. He moved up to the AAA Charlotte Knights in 1993. He remained the Triple-A trainer when the team moved to Buffalo in 1995.

Kuntz was named Assistant Athletic Trainer for the Kansas City Royals in December 1998 and stayed with the team through the 2002 season.

Following the 2002 season he returned again to the Cleveland Indians as Minor League Rehabilitation Coordinator. He held that position until he was named Head Athletic Trainer for the Nationals in 2007.

He has a wife, Leslie and two children, Leah and Emily.
