Biographical Information[edit]
Outfielder Larry Nichols was named an ABCA All-American in 1962, alongside Larry Thomas and Archie Moore. He then played in the Pittsburgh Pirates system from 1962 to 1964. He started with a .204 mark in 75 games for the Grand Forks Chiefs in 1962, but improved to .278/.353/.506 with 24 home runs, 85 RBI and 13 stolen bases in 128 games between two Single-A clubs in 1963. By that point, he was nearly two years older than the average league player. In 1964, back at Single-A and now almost three years older than the average league player, Nichols hit .304/.393/.525 with 24 home runs, 97 RBI and 93 runs scored in 132 games between two clubs. He also tossed 21 innings that year, going 1-2 with an 8.14 ERA.
Overall, Nichols batted .273/.362/.468 with 50 home runs, 202 RBI and 191 runs scored in 335 games.
