Biographical Information[edit]
Kyoichi Kikuchi played for the Japanese national team and in Nippon Pro Baseball.
Kikuchi played for Toshiba in the industrial leagues. [1] He hit .231/.323/.654 for Japan in the 1978 Amateur World Series; he hit 3 homers and drove in 10 in 9 games while playing error-free defense in right. He tied Luis Casanova, Ben Richardson and Pedro José Rodríguez, Sr. for 4th in home runs. On Japan, he tied Kasuhisa Hino for 2nd in RBI, 3 behind the great Hiromitsu Ochiai. [2] He played for Japan in the 1979 Intercontinental Cup (winning Silver) and 1981 Intercontinental Cup. [3]
He was a second-round pick of the Taiyo Whales in the 1981 NPB draft. [4] He did not handle the transition to wood bats well, hitting .136/.136/.136 in 22 plate appearances in 1982, going 2 for 6 with two doubles in 1985 and 2 for 17 in 1986 to finish his NPB career at .156/.156/.222. He retired after the 1987 season. [5]
