Biographical Information[edit]

Kwang-sam Kim played in the Korea Baseball Organization for 13 years.

Kim was drafted by the LG Twins in the first round of the 1999 KBO draft, and he had a 10.23 ERA in 11 games in his first season. He then recorded a 7.50 ERA in 12 games in 2000, and he missed the next two seasons due to military service. Kim also represented South Korea in the 2002 Intercontinental Cup, going 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA and 17 K in 10 2/3 IP. He got his win over Brazil's Rodrigo Maciel. He was 6th in the event in strikeouts, between Jung-kil Ma and Yueh-Ping Lin. He was 7-9 with a 4.46 ERA in 2003 after returning, and he went 8-7 with a 4.47 ERA in 2004. Kim had a 7-7 record with a 4.96 ERA in 2005, but he suffered from injuries so he only pitched 10 games combined in the next two seasons.

The Twins turned him into an outfielder in 2008, and he was 5-for-13 with the big club. He stayed in the minors in 2009, and he became a pitcher again in 2010. Kim was 7-6 with a 5.68 ERA in 2010 season, then he went 4-5 with a 4.74 ERA in 2011. He was 4-9 with a 4.92 ERA in 2012, but he underwent right elbow injury surgery and missed two years. Kim's ERA was 5.74 in 4 games in 2015, and he was placed in the minors for the entire 2016 season. On August 22, he was hit on his head by a comebacker, and that injury ended his career. Kim coached LG's minor league team from 2017 to 2020, and he was their bullpen coach from 2021 to 2024.

Overall, Kim was 41-50 with a 5.21 ERA, struck out 453 and pitched 764 innings in 13 seasons in the KBO.
