Biographical Information[edit]

Catcher Kirk Pierce became a familiar face in the independent Northern League, playing there from 2000 to 2005. He had previously played in the Philadelphia Phillies system from 1995 to 1999 and the New York Yankees system in 2001.

He was originally drafted by the Florida Marlins in the 31st round of the 1994 amateur draft, but opted not to sign. He did sign after being taken by the Phillies in the 9th round of the 1995 amateur draft, one pick ahead of pitcher Paxton Crawford. After playing in the low minors for the first three years of his career, he reached Triple-A for the first time -- though briefly -- in 1998, going 1-for-13 for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons. After another season in the Phillies chain, he joined the Northern League's Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks in 2000, hitting .271/.399/.491 with 13 home runs and 48 RBI in 81 games. He spent 12 games in the Yankees system in 2001, but the majority of the campaign was spent with Fargo-Moorhead. Back with Fargo-Moorhead in 2002, he hit .319/.415/.548 with 17 home runs, 63 RBI and 100 hits -- his only 100 hit campaign -- in 87 games. He slugged .305/.389/.556 with 15 home runs and 72 RBI in 82 games for the Schaumburg Flyers in 2003. He was the league's All-Star catcher in 2003. He returned to Schaumburg in 2004 and played for the Sioux Falls Canaries in 2005 to wrap up his career.

Overall, Pierce hit .250/.361/.361 with 19 home runs and 113 RBI in 300 affiliated minor league games and .288/.391/.488 with 68 home runs and 293 RBI in 459 indy league games. Combined, he batted .274/.380/.441 with 87 home runs and 406 RBI in 759 games.
