King University was founded in 1867 as King College, a private Presbyterian coillege. It took its current name in 2013. 2009-2010 was the provisional year for King College in its transition from the NAIA to NCAA Division II. John Rypel went here.
In 1902, the baseball team of King College set a college baseball record by allowing 42 runs in a game against Virginia Tech in a 42-3 loss. The record stood until March 28, 1991, when Methodist College administered a 43-0 beatdown to Maryville University.
