Biographical Information[edit]
Mark Conkin was a scout and college coach.
Conkin led his high school conference in basketball scoring in 1974-1975 (19.6 ppg). He hit .350 as an outfielder in college, winning All-Conference honors. He was a teammate of Mookie Wilson and Bill Landrum in college. He was an assistant at Delta State under Boo Ferriss then was an assistant at East Tennessee State. He scouted for the San Francisco Giants (1982-1984?) and Oakland Athletics (1985-1994), signing Walt Weiss, Alan Cockrell and Lee Tinsley. He later was head coach of King College before his career ended when a throw hit him in the face.
