Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Kevin Zaug played in the Chicago White Sox system in 2000.

He was originally drafted out of high school by the New York Mets in the 44th round of the 1997 amateur draft, one round after David DeJesus, but did not sign. He then attended St. John's University, where he was 5-2 with a 6.45 ERA in 22 games (four starts) in 1999 and 2-3 with a 4.22 ERA in 19 games (three starts) in 2000. He was 5-2 with 6 saves and a 1.09 ERA for the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod League, a bright spot on a team that was 17-27. He led the league in ERA by .02 ahead of Shawn Weaver and made the All-Star team, joining Derrick DePriest as the relievers picked.

He signed as an undrafted free agent with the White Sox in 2000 and went 3-6 with a save and a 5.98 ERA in 22 appearances for the AZL White Sox. He allowed 58 hits and 26 walks in 46.2 innings, while striking out 29 batters and finishing ten games. He was second in the Arizona League in losses.

He died on December 18, 2012 at the age of 34.
