Biographical Information[edit]

Kevin Nichols played in the minors and then was a college coach.

Nichols was picked by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 28th round of the 1996 amateur draft. Alabama made it to the 1996 College World Series but the 1997 Baseball Almanac doesn't list Nichols as getting into a game for the team; he had hit 13 homers as a freshman in 1994 but was then either left off the team or was kicked off by the coach. [1] He split the summer of 1996 between the Piedmont Boll Weevils (.222/.263/.306 in 22 G) and Martinsville Phillies (.253/.280/.380 in 42 G), fielding .845 at 3B and .981 at 1B between the two stops. In 1997, he batted .293/.309/.402 in 81 games for Piedmont and was 0 for 12 for the Clearwater Threshers. He finished his pro career with a composite .266/.289/.375 batting line in 149 games, with 47 runs, 30 doubles, 9 homers, 77 RBI and 18 walks. He fielded .872 in 101 games at the hot corner and .988 in 29 at 1B.

He was head coach of Erskine College from 2000-2017, winning 588 games and setting the school record for wins three times - 38 in 2008, 42 in 2006 and 44 in 2008. He was Conference Carolinas Coach of the Year in 2016. [2] He then became assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the College of Charleston. [3] He was then named associate head coach at Middle Tennessee State University for the 2023 season. [4]
