Biographical Information[edit]

Kevin Mahar led the Big 10 Conference in home runs as a fifth-year senior in 2004. He was signed as a free agent by scout Derek Lee for the Texas Rangers before the 2004 amateur draft and made his pro debut that summer.

Mahar stayed involved in baseball after retiring by working at a baseball training facility and serving as a varsity assistant coach for the Carmel High School Greyhounds in spring 2012. But two years away from professional baseball was enough. Mahar became a hitting coach for the Billings Mustangs in the Cincinnati Reds organization in 2013-2014. He served in the same capacity with the Daytona Tortugas in 2015. Mahar then left the game for one year before returning to the Reds as the Dayton Dragons bench coach in 2017-2019. Mahar was scheduled to be the bench coach of the Louisville Bats in 2020 before the season was cancelled due to COVID-19. In 2021 he served in the dual roles of bench coach & game planning coach. Mahar was the minor league outfield/baserunning coordinator for the Reds in 2022-2023.
