Keiji Ikebe has played in the Japanese industrial leagues for Nippon Oil. He has represented Japan on the international stage. In the 2005 Baseball World Cup, Ikebe hit .333/.463/.758, outperforming several future Nippon Pro Baseball players. Ikebe had 11 runs, 4 homers and 10 RBI in 9 games, playing primarily left field. He tied Mike Cervenak, Chun-Yu Kuo, Tsutomu Takanezawa and Edgard Clemente for third in the tourney in homers, trailing only Yulieski Gourriel and Joey Votto. He was left off the All-Tournament team as Freddy Herrera, Danny Rombley and Tiago Magalhaes were chosen in the outfield; only Rombley had a better OPS in the event. He won Gold with Japan in the 2005 Asian Championship.
Ikebe also played in the 2006 Asian Games and 2006 Haarlem Baseball Week, hitting .471/.500/.529 in the latter event, third in average behind Dirk van 't Klooster and Yoennis Cespedes.
