Biographical Information[edit]
The nephew of Roberto Clemente, outfielder Edgard Clemente (formerly Edgard Velazquez) played parts of three big league seasons. The bulk of his damage came in 1999, when he smashed all 8 of his career home runs and batted .253/.282/.488 in 57 games for the Colorado Rockies. After his brief big league bonanza, Clemente hit .220/.298/.537 for Puerto Rico in the 2005 Baseball World Cup with 4 home runs and 10 RBI in 11 games, playing right fielder. He tied Mike Cervenak, Keiji Ikebe, Chun-Yu Kuo and Tsutomu Takanezawa for third in the event in home runs, trailing Yulieski Gourriel and Joey Votto. He hit game-deciding three-run homers against both Japan and Taiwan. He also played for the independent Sioux Falls Canaries in 2005 and 2006, last spotted in the Can-Am League in 2012.
