Biographical Information[edit]

Ke-Yi Chen has played in the CPBL and for the Taiwanese national team.

Chen was drafted by the Rakuten Monkeys in the fifth round of the 2018 CPBL Draft. [1] He spent his first five seasons mainly in the minor league, only pitching two games with the big club, both in 2022.[2] Chen broke out and secured a spot in the rotation in 2023, and he had a 6-5 record with a 4.61 ERA. He relieved Rui-Yang Gu Lin in the 2nd inning of 2023 CPBL All-Star Game 2, but he allowed a single to Wei-Chen Wang, walked Kuo-Chen Fan then Namoh Iyang loaded the bases with an infield single. Chen retired Chih-Chieh Su, but Li Lin then drove in 2 runs with a single. He forced a fly-out to end this inning, but he then gave up a leadoff single to Ssu-Chi Chou in the 3rd inning. Chen walked Giljegiljaw Kungkuan, then retired Tzu-Hsien Chan and Wang; Shao-En Lin then succeeded him. He was the starter of 2023 Taiwan Series Game 4, and he pitched 3 innings against the Wei-Chuan Dragons with only an unearned run allowed due to 2B Li Lin's error. The Dragons beat the Monkeys in 7 games. He got 68 votes to rank 2nd in the CPBL Rookie of the Year Award voting, 133 behind Hao-Chun Cheng.

The Tainan native then represented Taiwan in the 2023 Asia Professional Baseball Championship. He started against Australia, and he pitched 7 shutout innings with only 2 singles allowed. However, he still ended up with a no-decision because 6 Australia pitchers combined to shut out Taiwan for 9 innings. Taiwan won Bronze thanks to Tien-Hsin Kuo's walk-off hit in the Bronze Medal game against Australia.[3]
