Biographical Information[edit]

Katsuya Udo pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 16 years.

Udo was selected by the Yokohama Taiyo Whales in the third round of the 1991 NPB draft, and he recorded a 4.99 ERA in 19 appearances in his rookie year. He joined the rotation in 1993, and he was selected into the 1993 NPB All-Star Game. Udo allowed a double to Kazuhiro Kiyohara in the 7th inning of Game 1, then Satoshi Takahashi added a triple. The Pacific League won the game with this run, and Udo was the losing pitcher. He ended up 6-6 with a 3.30 ERA in 1993 season.

The Kobe native was still a reliable starter in 1994 ‎as he was 8-7 with a 3.39 ERA, but he slumped to 4-7 with a 5.38 ERA in 1995. His ERA rose to 8.33 in 1996, and the Whales released him. The Chunichi Dragons picked him up, and Udo pitched 19 games with a 4.10 ERA in 1997. He was placed in the NPB Farm League in the next two seasons, and Chunichi released him after the 1999 season. Udo then went to the Chinatrust Whales of the CPBL. He had a 5-7 record with a 2.26 ERA in 2000, then announced his retirement after this season. He was a coach for the Yokohama DeNA BayStars from 2015 to 2016.

Overall, Udo was 23-33 with a 4.39 ERA, struck out 231 and pitched 470 innings in 6 years in NPB.
