Biographical Information[edit]

Between high school and college, pitcher Justin Sterner served a two year missionary mission in Samoa for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He then spent three seasons at Brigham Young University but went undrafted and signed as an undrafted free agent with the Miami Marlins in July of 2020, in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, when he was just a month short of his 24th birthday. That year's draft had been truncated to just five rounds, and signing bonuses were limited to a symbolic sum, but that did not deter him. One year later, he was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays in return for P David Hess.

Justin made his major league debut with the Rays on May 31, 2024, pitching two scoreless innings in relief in a 3-1 loss to the Baltimore Orioles.
