Biographical Information[edit]
A native of Venezuela, Julio Morillo signed with the Cincinnati Reds in 2009 as an international free agent. He played in their minor league system from 2010-2015, reaching AAA in 2015 for one game. He was released during spring training in 2016 and was offered a job with the major league club.
In 2016 major league baseball decried that every team have a Spanish-language translator on staff. Morillo filled that role from 2016-2019 along with being a baseball operations assistant. In this dual capacity he helped Spanish-speaking players communicate with media, coaches, and staff and assisted the manager of advance scouting. In 2020 he was scheduled to move into a coaching role for the Reds as the Billings Mustangs bench coach before the coronavirus pandemic forced the cancellation of the minor league season. He was a coach for the ACL Reds in 2021, then managed the same club in 2022. Morillo managed the Daytona Tortugas in 2023-2024.
