Biographical Information[edit]

Julio Jimenez pitched over 450 games in the minors. His brother Jose Jimenez also pitched in the pros.

Jimenez debuted in 1999 with AZL Mexico, going 3-5 with a 4.70 ERA. He tied for 5th in the Arizona League in losses. In 2000, he was with the Algodoneros de Torreon (0-1, 3.42 in 16 G) and Saraperos de Saltillo (1-0, 9.35 in 10 G). The next year, he pitched again for Saltillo (5.79 ERA in 5 G) and Torreon (2-0, Sv, 3.24 in 23 G). He spent all of 2002 with Torreon, going 2-4 with a 5.66 ERA and 2.16 WHIP. In '03, he was 1-6 with a 5.57 ERA and 40 BB in 53 1/3 IP for the Vaqueros de Laguna; he led the team with 48 games pitched.

The Zacatecas native was 3-5 with a 6.75 ERA for Vaguna in 2004. In '05, he struggled for the Vaqueros (2-5, 9.64 ERA, 2.13 WHIP in 37 G). The next year, he went 1-2 with a save and a 4.14 ERA in 58 G; he only appeared in 41 1/3 IP as a LOOGY. He tied Mauricio Tequida and Jose Vargas for the most games pitched in the Mexican League. He was 2-4 with a save and a 5.04 ERA in 46 games for Laguna in 2007. He was awful for the Yaquis de Obregón in the 2008 Caribbean Series (4 H, 2 HR, 3 R in 2/3 IP).

With the Tigres de Quintana Roo, he had only a 0.85 ERA in 53 games (31 2/3 IP) in 2008, giving up as many earned runs as he had in 2/3 IP in the 2008 Caribbean Series. The lefty specialist just missed the top 10 in games pitched, one behind #10 Alan Guerrero. He faded back in 2009 for the Olmecas de Tabasco (1-5, 5.79 in 35 G) and Saltillo (1-0, 3.72 in G). In 2010, he bounced between Saltillo (0 R in 4 1/3 IP over 10 G), Tabasco (0-1, 7.36 in 18 G) and the Piratas de Campeche (0-1, 1 R in 1 2/3 IP over 5 G). Overall, he only pitched 17 innings in 34 games.

In 442 Mexican League games, he was 16-34 with four saves and a 5.46 ERA.
