Biographical Information

Julio César Sánchez was a player and manager in the Olympics.

Sánchez was part of the Sandinista army during the 1970s. He was a member of the Nicaraguan national team in the 1983 Intercontinental Cup, 1983 Pan American Games (when they won a Silver Medal, beating out a Team USA with Mark McGwire and B.J. Surhoff; in a bench role, he was 4 for 7 and drove in the winner with a homer against the Dominican national team), 1984 Olympics, 1985 Intercontinental Cup and 1986 Central American Games (Gold Medal). He was the 14th player in Nicaraguan history to 1,000 career hits, retiring with 1,055. He coached for Nicaragua in the 1994 Baseball World Cup, 2003 Baseball World Cup, 2006 Central American and Caribbean Games, 2010 Pan American Games Qualifying Tournament, 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers and 2013 Central American Games (Gold Medal) and managed them in the 1995 Intercontinental Cup, 1995 Pan American Games (a Silver Medal), 1996 Olympics (just missing a Medal in 4th place), 2001 Baseball World Cup, 2001 Central American Games (Gold Medal), 2010 Intercontinental Cup and 2017 Central American Games (Gold Medal). He has also guided the Indios de Bóer to national titles. He has scouted for the Arizona Diamondbacks in Nicaragua as well. Off the field, he has been National Police Commissioner.
