Julian Perez was an Atlanta Braves scout from 1992-2006.
Perez played for the Santurce Crabbers and Ponce Lions in the 1980s. An outfielder, he also played four seasons in the Mexican League. He hit .450/.482/.718 in a 34-game look from the 1984 Tampico Lightermen. They obviously invited him back for 1985 and he remained productive, batting .366/.477 /.596 with 26 home runs, 120 runs, 89 RBI and 92 walks. He fell off to .359/.454/.516 with San Luis Potosi in '86, the highest-offensive season in Mexico. In 1987, he went 31 for 77 with 5 doubles, a triple, 2 homers and 16 walks for the Puebla Black Angels. Overall, he had batted .380/.474/.592 with 206 runs, 179 RBI, 43 HR and 152 walks in 244 games in Mexico's top league.
As a Braves scout, he helped sign Luis Atilano, Luis Avilan, José Capellán, Neftali Feliz, Luis Hernandez, Andy Marte, Edgar Osuna, Brayan Peña, Jesús Sucre and Sergio Valenzuela. He died of a car crash.
