Biographical Information[edit]
Joshwan Wright has played in the minors and for the Panamanian national team.
He was signed by Oakland Athletics scout Juan Mosquera in July 2017. [1] He hit .221/.321/.276 the next summer in his pro debut for the DSL Athletics, fielding .930 at third base. In 2019, he came to the US and improved to .330/.386/.419 with 37 runs and 37 RBI in 50 games for the AZL Athletics Gold, fielding .912 at the hot corner. He was 7th in the Arizona League in average (between Taylor Lomack and Cristopher Cespedes), 9th in RBI and led third basemen in double plays (15) but lost out the All-Star honors at 3B to Fidel Mejia. [2]
After the 2020 minor league season was canceled by the COVID-19 pandemic, he returned to action with the '21 Stockton Ports. Now playing primarily second base, he posted a .243/.318/.350 batting line. The next year, he hit .274/.319/.361 as a utility man for the Lansing Lugnuts. He appeared once for Panama in the 2022 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. Pinch-hitting for DH Edgar Muñoz late in a rout of Argentina, he struck out against Matias Asa Bartol. Panama cruised to a spot in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, their first World Baseball Classic in 14 years. [3]
