Biographical Information[edit]

Starting pitcher Josh Smith made his major league debut with the Cincinnati Reds in 2015.

In his first professional season, he was 2-3 with a 2.14 ERA in 19 relief appearances, striking out 43 batters in 33 2/3 innings for the Billings Mustangs and Dayton Dragons. With Dayton again in 2011, he was 14-7 with a 2.97 ERA in 26 starts and 166 Ks in 142 1/3 innings after converting to starting pitching. He was 9-8 with a 3.80 ERA in 27 starts for the Bakersfield Blaze in 2012 and in 2013, he was 11-9 with a 3.26 ERA in 28 starts for the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. He began 2014 with the Triple-A Louisville Bats.

On July 4, 2015, he tied a Reds record with four hit batsmen in a 7-3 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. Jake Weimer had set the record, back in 1907.

In 2020, with the Miami Marlins, he was a teammate of the other Josh Smith; to minimize confusion, he was generally called "Josh A. Smith", while his namesake was "Josh D. Smith".
