Biographical Information

Josh Davies was a minor league player.

He was 5 for 19 for Victoria in the 2004 Claxton Shield, with two doubles, a walk and three runs in five games. He struggled with the glove as their starting shortstop, making four errors and fielding .818. Signing with the Anaheim Angels, he hit .255/.285/.328 for the AZL Angels, fielding only .891 in 26 games at SS and .846 in 16 at 3B. He moved to the Australian Provincials in 2005 and went 4 for 21 with a triple, two RBI and two errors in five games. He led the AZL Angels in average in 2005 (.293/.321/.401) but again was abysmal with the glove (.789 at 3B, his main position). With the Provincials in the 2006 Claxton Shield, he was 7 for 24 with a double, two walks, four runs and three RBI while making on error.

In the summer of 2006, Davies played all four infield positions and the outfield as a utility man for the Cedar Rapids Kernels, hitting .242/.288/.399. In the winter, he went 6 for 22 with two doubles, a home run, three walks, six runs, three RBI and three errors in five games as the 3B for the Australian Provincials, fielding just .842. He had serious offensive woes in 2007, split between the Kernels (.194/.229/.243 in 30 G, 38 K in 103 AB) and the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (1 for 14, 2B).

Davies was used as a pitcher in 2008. He gave up five runs in six innings in the Claxton Shield. He was 0-1 with a 6.45 ERA and 33 hits allowed in 22 1/3 IP for the AZL Padres in the summer. That ended his US career. He did not play in Australia in 2009. In 2010, he returned to action with Victoria, as a batter once more, and hit .370/.416/.499 with 19 RBI in 24 games. He was 5th in average (between Patrick Maat and Tim Kennelly), tied for second in RBI (behind only Kennelly) and 7th in OBP.

When the Australian Baseball League was reestablished in 2010-2011, Josh turned in a strong season for the Melbourne Aces, hitting .307/.335/.503 with 7 homers, 28 runs and 27 RBI in 40 games. He tied for fifth in the ABL in homers, tied for 4th in doubles (9), was 10th in average and was 10th in slugging. He fell to .243/.293/.338 in 2011-2012 and tied for third in the league with 41 whiffs. In 2012-2013, Davies batted .281/.305/.378 for Melbourne.

He then joined the Australian national team for the 2013 World Baseball Classic.
