Biographical Information[edit]

Joseph Guerra was signed by the Boston Red Sox at age 17 after being scouted by Ray Webster. He debuted for the VSL Red Sox in 2004, going 3-3 with a 4.33 ERA. In 2005, the teenager had a 0-2, 2.45 record for the DSL Red Sox. During 2006, he went 4-2 with a 2.68 ERA for the GCL Red Sox and did not walk a batter in 43 2/3 IP. He split 2007 between the Greenville Drive (2-0, 4.02) and Lowell Spinners (1-3, 5.48, .360 opponent average).

Guerra allowed 2 runs in 1 1/3 IP in the 2007 Baseball World Cup as Panama's worst hurler. Even worse for the team, they had failed to provide proper insurance for Guerra or four others with ties to MLB clubs (Isaias Garcia, Alwin Pérez, Concepción Rodríguez and Valentino Arce), stripping the team of a couple wins and forcing them out of the Medal round.

In 2008, the right-hander split time between Lowell (0-1, 6.75) and Greenville (0-2, Sv, 6.57).
