Valentino Arce was a minor league infielder for four years. In 2003, he played in the Dominican Summer League and he was injured in 2004. In 2005, he starred for the AZL Royals, hitting .335/.405/.412. He was 5th in the Arizona League in average and led the league in times hit by pitch (13). He made the AZL All-Star team as the top second baseman. In 2006, Valentino hit .259/.331/.301 in 99 games for the Burlington Bees - he played at least 20 games in the outfield (20), at shortstop (30) and at second base (32). The next year, he played 48 games for the Wilmington Blue Rocks (.232/.273/.291 in 48 games) and 23 for the Wichita Wranglers (.242/.286/.348). Arce represented Panama in the 2007 Baseball World Cup, going 1 for 7. He backed up Angel Chavez at short and Yoni Lasso at second. Unfortunately, Panama did not properly insure Arce or four other players with ties to MLB organizations and they were stripped of a spot in the quarterfinals as a result.
