Biographical Information[edit]

Yoni Lasso is a former minor league infielder who is perhaps best known for playing for Panama in several international events.

During his minor league baseball career, Lasso played in the Cincinnati Reds organization. Lasso debuted in 2004 with the VSL Reds, hitting .301 with 35 RBI in 46 games. In 2005, he played for the GCL Reds and Billings Mustangs, hitting .233/.337/.301 in 23 games for the former and only .095/.286/.095 in nine games for the latter. Overall, he hit .202 in 32 minor league games in 2005. In the 2005 Baseball World Cup, he hit .256/.302/.385 as Panama's starting third baseman. In the Bronze Medal game, he went 1 for 4 with a run and two RBI from the #2 slot in the order to help Panama beat the host Netherlands 7-6.

Lasso appeared in three games in the 2006 World Baseball Classic, collecting one hit in seven at-bats for a .143 batting average. His lone hit was a double.

He spent 2006 with three teams - the Mustangs, the Dayton Dragons and the Sarasota Reds. With the Mustangs, he hit .167 in seven games. In five games with the Dragons, he hit .100 and in seven games for the Reds, he hit .067 in seven games. Overall, he hit .108 in 19 games. The 2006 season was his final minor league season - he hit .243 in 3 minor league seasons.

Lasso hit only .147/.256/.176 in the 2006 COPABE Olympic qualifiers, again being used as Panama's main third baseman. In the 2007 Pan American Games, he was 0 for 4 with a walk as a backup infielder for Panama. During the 2007 Baseball World Cup, Lasso batted .231/.286/.308 as Panama's most-used second baseman; he turned 7 double plays in 4 games.
