Biographical Information[edit]

Jose Olmeda played in the minor leagues and CPBL.

Olmeda was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 23rd round of the 1989 Amateur Draft, and he hit .248/.336/.335 for the Idaho Falls Braves in his first year. He hit .253/.351/.382 for the Sumter Braves in 1990, and he also played 27 games with a .259/.306/.286 batting line for the Burlington Braves. Olmeda then had a .275/.357/.410 batting line with 34 steals in 81 games for the Macon Braves in 1991, and he hit .202/.271/.324 with 16 steals in 50 games for the Greenville Braves. He mainly stayed in Greenville in 1992 as his batting line was .246/.317/.352 in 106 games, and he played 24 games with a .258/.359/.416 batting line for the Durham Bulls.

The Puerto Rican spent his entire 1993 season in Greenville, and he recorded a .279/.317/.421 batting line with 33 doubles. He was 2nd in doubles in the Southern League, tying Adam Casillas and Jim Bowie. Olmeda reached AAA in 1994, and he batted .230/.286/.341 in 109 games for the Richmond Braves. He then hit .253/.300/.336 there in 1995, and he also had a .250/.296/.426 batting line in 31 games in Greenville. Olmeda signed with the Florida Marlins in 1996, and he improved to .320/.355/.467 for the Charlotte Knights. He slumped to .207/.270/.273 in 1997, and his batting line was .271/.324/.365 in Richmond in 1998. The Mercuries Tigers of Taiwan signed him in 1999, but Olmeda only played 13 games with a .360/.385/.420 batting line. He hit .261/.314/.394 for the Atlantic City Surf in 2000, and he announced his retirement after having a .286/.326/.429 batting line in 2001.
