Biographical Information[edit]

Jose Montilla was a shortstop who played in the independent Western League with the Long Beach Barracudas in 1995 and the Long Beach Riptide in 1996. After a year away, Montilla played for the Allentown Ambassadors in the Northeast League. In these three seasons he hit .248/.319/.316 while appearing in 166 games. He also played winter ball in the Venezuelan League, including for the Cardenales de Lara.

Information about his baseball career from 1999-2016 is unavailable, at least in English language sources. In 2017 Montilla joined the San Francisco Giants organization and has managed Giants' teams since then. He managed the DSL Giants from 2017-2019. Montilla was scheduled to manage the DSL Giants Orange in 2020 before the minor league season was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. He returned in 2021 as manager of the DSL Giants Black. Montilla moved stateside and managed the ACL Giants Black team in 2022-2023. Moving to the Cincinnati Reds' organization, Montilla managed the DSL Reds in 2024.
