Biographical information

Jose Lugo pitched in the minor leagues from 2002 to 2014.

Lugo was signed by scout Juan Martinez for the Oakland A's in 2002. He began his professional career that summer with the DSL Athletics East. He pitched for the DSL Athletics 2 in 2003 and the DSL Athletics 1 in 2004. Lugo came stateside in 2005, playing for the AZL Athletics, with whom he went 2-3 with a 5.23 ERA in 15 games (five starts).

Lugo was acquired by the the Minnesota Twins organization in the 2005 Rule V Draft. He split 2006 between the Elizabethton Twins and Beloit Snappers, going 8-4 with a 3.56 ERA in 13 games started with Elizabethton and 1-4 with a 4.45 ERA in 22 relief appearances with the Snappers. With Beloit again in 2007, he went 5-6 with a 4.32 ERA in 40 games (seven starts). In 2008, he pitched for the Fort Myers Miracle, making 51 relief appearances and going 2-6 with a 4.04 ERA. On December 11, 2008, he was acquired by the Kansas City Royals in the 2008 Rule V Draft, and on that same day he was traded to the Mariners for cash considerations, who later returned him to the Twins. In 2009, he pitched for the New Britain Rock Cats and Rochester Red Wings in his first tastes of Double- and Triple-A, respectively, and went 4-2 with a 4.16 ERA in 59 games. In 2010, he was 0-6 with a 6.72 ERA in 56 games for Rochester.

He was let go by Minnesota following 2010 and signed with the Atlanta Braves. With the Mississippi Braves and Gwinnett Braves in 2011, he was 4-4 with a 2.82 ERA in 33 games (9 starts). In 2012, he went 5-10 with a 4.75 ERA in 32 games (16 starts) between Mississippi and Gwinnett and in 2013, he was 1-2 with a 4.95 ERA in 8 games (3 starts) for the Rome Braves and Lynchburg Hillcats. In 2014, he pitched briefly for the Reynosa Broncos of the Mexican League, going 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA in four games (two starts).

Overall, Lugo was 32-49 with a 4.47 ERA in 333 games (57 starts) in 10 minor league seasons. He allowed 748 hits and walked 330 batters in 714 2/3 innings, while striking out 651 batters.
