Biographical Information[edit]

Jose Jimenez pitched five seasons in the Washington Nationals organization, but never managed to make it higher than the Rookie-class level. One of numerous players in professional baseball with that combination of first name and last name, he was originally signed by the Nationals on July 2, 2013 as an international amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic.

His first professional assignment came in 2014 with the DSL Nationals and consisted of just one game, in which he pitched a scoreless inning. In 2015, he was 1-1, 5.92 in 18 games, but in 2016, in his third season in the Dominican Summer League, he improved to 2-4, 3.25 with 5 saves. He was exclusively used as a reliever those three years, and indeed would never make a signgle start as a professional pitcher. In 2017, he made it to the U.S., pitching with the GCL Nationals. On July 23rd, he was part of a historic day when the Nats' pitchers threw combined no-hitters in both ends of a doubleheader against the GCL Marlins. He appeared in the first of the two games, pitching the 7th and final inning in relief of Joan Baez in a 4-0 win to complete the feat, then Jared Johnson and Gilberto Chu combined their efforts to pitch another seven-inning no-hitter in the second game, 1-0. He went 3-0, 1.35 in 15 games that year with 2 saves, but just 11 strikeouts in 26 2/3 innings.

In 2018, he was assigned to the Potomac Nationals of the Carolina League when he was ready to start his season in June, but never appeared in a game for them. On July 25th, he was sent back to the GCL Nationals, and made 8 appearances that were largely ineffective, going 1-2, 6.75 and giving up 18 hits in 12 innings. He was released the following spring and never pitched professionally after that.
