Biographical Information[edit]

Jose Garcia pitched in the minor leagues and the CPBL.

Garcia was signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers and spent his first two seasons in the Dominican Summer League. Coming stateside in 1993, he had a 2.42 ERA in 36 relief outings for the Yakima Bears. He also pitched 27 games for the Bakersfield Dodgers, but his ERA was 6.83. He was 9th in the Dodgers chain with nine saves and his 63 appearances trailed only Mark Mimbs and Todd Williams. Garcia had a solid 1.38 ERA in 20 games with the Vero Beach Dodgers in 1994, and he had a 1.64 mark in 7 games with the San Antonio Missions. He was promoted to AAA. He pitched 37 games for the Albuquerque Dukes in that season, but his ERA was 5.15. Overall, he was 9-2 with 7 saves and a 3.55 ERA in 64 appearances that summer, working 101 1/3 innings out of the bullpen. He tied Dennys Reyes for 8th in the Dodgers system in wins, led in appearances (5 more than Williams) and tied Jeff Eddings for 9th in saves. Among hurlers who only worked in relief, no one pitched more innings among their farmhands.

In 1995, Garcia mainly stayed with AA Missions, and he had a 4.03 ERA in 38 games. He also got 11 appearances with the Dukes, but his ERA was 6.32. Garcia then recorded a 4.71 ERA in 44 relief outings in Albuquerque in 1996 (2-0 with 11 1/3 shutout innings for San Antonio) for a combined record of 8-1. His ERA was 5.12 in 33 games for the Dukes and 3.15 in ten outings for the Missions in 1997. The Brother Elephants signed him in 1999, and he notched 15 saves with a 2.34 ERA in 45 games. He was 2nd in appearances (8 behind Julio Solano) and 2nd in saves (tied with Matt Turner). Garcia left Taiwan after the 1999 season, and his professional career ended.
