Biographical Information[edit]

José López hit three sacrifice flies on April 15, 2008. He became the 12th player in MLB history to accomplish that in a game. He was the starting second baseman for the Venezuelan national team in the 2009 World Baseball Classic, demonstrating an amazing propensity to hit doubles.

Lopez signed a contract with the Yomiuri Giants of Japan's Central League for the 2013 season. He was the first foreign player to win five Gold Gloves in Japan and set a NPB record for consecutive error-free chances (1,632 from 8/17/17 to 6/2/19, breaking Kihachi Enomoto's decades-old record). He was the 3rd player to get 1,000+ hits in both MLB and NPB, following Ichiro Suzuki and Hideki Matsui.
