Biographical Information[edit]
José Guevara played for six seasons in the minors and for the Venezuelan national team.
Guevara was signed by Chicago Cubs scout Hector Ortega in October 2005. [1] He hit .247/.305/.286 for the 2006 DSL Cubs but threw out 43% of those who tried to steal. Dropping to the VSL Cubs/Twins for 2007, he batted .194/.302/.251 and threw out 42%. Coming stateside in 2008, he hit .261/.393/.348 for the AZL Cubs, backing up Alvaro Sosa. In 2009, he played for the AZL Cubs (3 for 34, 6 BB, 2B, 4 RBI) and Boise Hawks (.257/.297/.429 in 9 G).
He split 2010 between Boise (4 for 48, 3 BB, 3 R) and the Peoria Chiefs (5 for 30, 2B, 2 BB, 2 R, 2 RBI). In '11, he wrapped up his minor league career with the AZL Cubs (0 for 3) and Boise (3 for 14, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI). He had hit .200/.288/.258 in 181 minor league games, with 55 runs and 58 RBI. He also pitched two hitless, shutout innings, walking one and picking up a win! He fielded .982 at catcher and threw out 38% and fielded .987 in 27 games at 1B. In the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games, he was 0 for 5, backing up Luis Alen and Gabriel Purroy at catcher and playing one game at DH. He had four putouts. [2]
