Jose Escalona has pitched in the minor leagues.
Escalona signed with the Seattle Mariners at age 17. He made his pro debut with Aguirre in the 2004 Venezuelan Summer League, going 3-2 with a 2.18 ERA. He allowed 27 hits in 43 IP. In 2005, he was back with Aguirre, improving to 3-4, 1.18 with 59 K in 53 1/3 IP and a .204 opponent average. He was 5th in the pitcher-friendly circuit in ERA.
In 2006, Jose went 7-12 with a 4.06 ERA for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, tying for the team lead in victories and leading with 110 strikeouts. He pitched for the Cardenales de Lara that winter. In 2007, he fell to 4-10, 7.41 with the High Desert Mavericks, posting a WHIP of 1.84. It should be noted that High Desert was a high-scoring environment and the team ERA was 6.44. He was back with Lara that winter.
Escalona split 2008 between Wisconsin (3-3, 2 Sv, 3.80, 50 K in 47 1/3 IP) and High Desert (Sv, 3.97). He did not pitch in the minors in 2009, then was with Venezuela for the 2009 Baseball World Cup.
