Biographical Information[edit]

José Acosta pitched in the minors and for the Dominican national team.

Acosta pitched for the New York Mets' DSL Mets affiliate in 2009, going 3-3 with a save and a 4.91 ERA in 11 games. In 2010, he went 4-1 with a save and a 1.98 ERA in seven games for the DSL Mets 2; one issue was 8 walks in 13 2/3 IP.

He reappeared in the 2019 Pan American Games, when he was a late substitute for former major leaguer Raúl Valdés. [1] He even got a start against Nicaragua, striking out five in three innings but allowing two runs before Randy Pérez took over with a 2-0 deficit; the Dominicans rallied but would lose, giving him a no-decision. He did not have the highest ERA for the Dominicans in the event; MLB veteran Jhan Mariñez was higher. [2] That winter, he pitched in Nicaragua.
