Biographical Information[edit]

Jorge Guzman signed with the Philadelphia Phillies in January 2008. He was 0-1 with a 5.48 ERA for the 2008 VSL Phillies and 0-3, 7.09 in 2009. In 2010, he went 0-1 with a 3.78 ERA in his third season with the club. He went 3-3 with a save and a 2.22 ERA for the 2011 VSL Phillies. He was 0-1 with a 4.90 ERA for Venezuela in the 2011 Baseball World Cup, turning in two solid relief outings and getting a no-decision against Italy before getting crushed for five runs (three earned) in two innings (a Curt Smith two-run homer was the biggest blow) in a loss to the Dutch national team.

He pitched 1/3 of an inning in the 2011 Pan American Games, allowing a hit and a walk. In the 2013 Bolivarian Games, he was excellent for Silver Medal-winning Venezuela, with ten shutout innings (4 H, 2 BB, 5 K) and getting the win over Ecuador. He was 0-1 in the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games, giving up 4 runs (2 homers) in 3 IP in dropping the 5th/6th place game to Mexico.
